This policy explains what data the platform collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
The public hazard map can be used without an account and without sharing your identity. The platform collects only the data needed to operate the service:
If you submit a hazard report, we collect what you provide: the description, type and severity, the location, any photo, and optionally your name and contact details. The submitting device's IP address is recorded to prevent abuse. Reports are reviewed by moderators and, once approved, the description and location appear on the public map.
Operator accounts exist for agency staff (ODPEM, NWA, JFB, MOH, JPS, NWC, NSWMA and partners). For those users we store a name, email address, a securely hashed password, an assigned role, an organisation and an optional phone number. Members of the public do not need an account to use the public map.
Like any website, our servers log basic technical data — IP address, browser type and request times — to keep the service secure and reliable. The platform uses your browser's local storage (not advertising cookies) to remember preferences and, for staff, a login session.
To display maps, weather and hazard data, the platform loads data from open services including OpenStreetMap (map tiles), OSRM (routing), Photon and Nominatim (place search), and weather and hazard feeds (Open-Meteo, MET Norway, RainViewer, NASA GIBS, USGS, NOAA). When these load, your IP address is visible to those providers under their own privacy terms. The platform does not sell your data or use it for advertising.

We do not sell personal data. Information may be shared with responding agencies for emergency response, with service providers who operate the platform, or where required by law or to protect safety. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics may be shared publicly or with relevant agencies.
This is a general-audience information service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
