JIMS
Jamaica Incident Management System
JIMS measures traffic from movement, not identity. This policy explains exactly what the JIMS web platform collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
When you open the map and allow location access, your device contributes anonymous GPS telemetry so JIMS can measure live road speeds:
If you submit an incident report, we collect what you provide: the description, type and severity, the location, any photo, and optionally your name and contact details. The submitting device's IP address is recorded to prevent abuse. Reports are reviewed by moderators and, once approved, the description and location appear on the public map.
Accounts exist only for administrators and moderators. For those users we store a name, email address, a securely hashed password, a role and an optional phone number. Members of the public do not need an account to use JIMS.
Like any website, our servers log basic technical data — IP address, browser type and request times — to keep the service secure and reliable. JIMS uses your browser's local storage (not advertising cookies) to remember your traffic-sensor preference and, for staff, a login session.
To display maps and routes, JIMS loads data from open services including OpenStreetMap (map tiles), OSRM (routing), Nominatim (place search), and weather and hazard feeds (RainViewer, OpenWeather, USGS, NOAA). When these load, your IP address is visible to those providers under their own privacy terms. JIMS does not sell your data or use it for advertising.
| Live traffic | Measure road speeds, colour the map and calculate travel times and routes. |
| Incident map | Show moderated reports of hazards and closures. |
| Safety & security | Detect abuse, prevent false reports, keep the service running. |
| Improvement | Understand usage patterns to improve JIMS. |
We do not sell personal data. Information may be shared only with service providers who operate the platform, or where required by law or to protect safety. Aggregated, non-identifying traffic statistics may be shared publicly or with relevant agencies.
JIMS is a general-audience information service and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy; the effective date above will change accordingly. Questions about privacy on the JIMS web platform can be sent to info@myvirtualoffices.com. See the Contact page for more.
