Frequently asked questions

Your questions, answered.

Quick answers about the live hazard map, how your data is used, and how to get the most out of the platform.

The basics

About the service

What is this platform?
Jamaica's Disaster Response & Monitoring System is a real-time map and operations centre for every hazard the island faces — flooding, landslides, hurricanes, storm surge, earthquakes, road incidents and infrastructure failures — built so the public and responding agencies stay informed.
Who runs it?
The platform is maintained by Wocom Limited and operated in partnership with responding agencies in Jamaica including ODPEM, NWA, JFB, MOH, JPS, NWC and NSWMA. See About for details.
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. The public map runs in any web browser on phone, tablet or computer. No app, no sign-up — just open the map. Accounts are only required for agency operators and field reporters.
Does it cost anything?
No. It is a free public-information service.
The live map

How the map works

What can I see on the live map?
Dispatch incidents, closures, weather radar, hurricane tracks, earthquakes, flood zones, shelters, traffic cameras, river-level and rainfall sensors, and crowd-sourced hazard reports — all on a single map of Jamaica.
How fresh is the data?
Sensor readings, dispatch incidents and weather radar update continuously over a live socket connection. Earthquakes refresh every few minutes, hurricane tracks every 30 minutes.
How accurate is it?
Live readings come from real sensors and authoritative feeds (USGS, NOAA / National Hurricane Center, Open-Meteo, MET Norway). Crowd-sourced reports are reviewed by moderators before they appear publicly.
Privacy & data

What we collect — and what we don't

Is my location tracked?
No. Members of the public do not need an account, and the map does not track your identity. If you choose to submit a geotagged report, only that report's location is recorded. Full detail in the Privacy Policy.
What does the field-reporter mobile app collect?
Field reporters log in with a Wocom-issued account. The mobile app records the incident type, severity, location, optional notes and the reporter's identity — used by responding agencies to verify and follow up.
Using the platform

Reporting & everyday use

How do I report a hazard?
Tap Report on the map or open the Quick Report page — pick what you see, drop your location, add a photo. Reports are reviewed by moderators before appearing publicly.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes — the map is designed mobile-first and works in any modern phone browser. No download or install required.
There's an emergency — should I use this map?
For any life-threatening emergency, call the emergency services first (Police 119, Fire & Ambulance 110). This is an information platform — it complements emergency services, it does not replace them.
